I don’t know if you’re like me, but I’m really
tired of all the conflict that is taking place in the world,
especially in religions. Everyone seems to be claiming to be some
kind of expert. Yet, if you look very carefully at what they say,
there are gaping holes in how they think.
I’m no expert either. But, I do know one thing. There is Only One
Expert—the True God. The God Who IS Truth. Everyone else may have an
opinion (including me), but no one knows “the whole truth and
nothing but the truth.” To think that would be idolatry, setting up
a mere human being as God.
Some of our human opinions are in agreement. Some of our human
opinions are in conflict. But, they are all just opinions. The
Complete Truth belongs to God alone. When we fight over opinions, it
is usually just a form of arrogance, a lethal lack of humility,
where human beings try to pass off their opinions as fact, coercing,
cajoling and controlling others to buy into their beliefs. In
essence, they’ve turned their opinions into gods.
This is cultism. And it doesn’t make a difference
who you are, whether you are a religious leader, a government
official, a parent, teacher, a child or Bin Laden— when you try to
pass your opinion |
off as the
Absolute Truth, that is idolatry. And the Bible will tell you that
once an idol is created, it is doomed to tumble, and oftentimes,
crushes us. We become crushed by our own arrogance. That’s how our
economy tumbles.
That’s how all hell breaks out in our homeland.
If we truly—truly—believed that God is The Only Truth, then, we
wouldn’t allow our different opinions to become wars. We would seek to
abandon the “false gods” of our opinions, and seek Truth, The Only
God.
I think it’s time we had some religious commonsense. It’s time we
had complete and intelligent and truly open discussions about
difficult subjects like abortion or gay marriages, not propaganda
from either liberals or conservatives. It’s time we stopped turning
our scriptures into “gods”, and worshipping them or our
interpretations of them, and hurting others with our beliefs.
The real sign of true spiritual-knowledge is health, peace,
prosperity and happiness. That doesn't come from an opinion. It
comes from God. |
